Why Does Juneteenth Matter to Healthier Communities?

Reflecting on freedom, equity, and access
June 19, 2026 by

Today is Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

It became a federal holiday in 2021, and it is a day to reflect on freedom, progress, and the work that remains.

Equity is part of health

The work of building healthier communities includes making care reachable for everyone. Where a clinic opens, what it can afford to offer, and how many patients it can serve all shape who gets care.

Independent clinics and mobile nurses often reach people that larger systems miss. Supporting those practices is one way to make care more accessible.

What we believe

Supported practices. Better outcomes. Healthier communities.

We believe that when clinics run efficiently and save money and time, they can reinvest in their teams, their services, and the communities they serve.

Today

We honor Juneteenth and everyone who has worked, and continues to work, toward equal access and opportunity.

A note for planning: USPS is closed today for the federal holiday. If you are expecting deliveries, allow extra time.
